What does it mean to be a "master boxer"?

What does the word "master boxer" mean to you? What qualifies a fighter as a "master boxer", can a fighter lacking fundamentals be classed as one?????#

    Thanks in advance

So under your definition would Ali or Jones be a master boxer? I know that there are many who state that they relied too much on speed and reflexes without the grounding in fundamentals

To me a master boxer has perfect fundamentals, good defense, can dictate the pace of a fight with a jab, can counterpunch well and overall does not get hit often.

To me a master boxer would be the likes of:
        Joe Gans
        Ezzard Charles
        Gene Tunney
        Willie Pep
        Larry Holmes
        Marvin Hagler
        Benny Leonard

Well, I wouldn't class them as master boxers no. I would define it as "Hit and Not get hit" using boxing technique. Pernell Whitaker etc doesn't fall into that category, whereas Willie Pep does. Also having a classic boxer/boxer puncher style.

            Good definition.

Add the ability to do everything to a capable level. Inside and outside.

I consider someone like **** Tiger to be a master in the ring. Despite not being to flashy.

Another one to ad to your list and definition is Harold Johnson. He's the epitome of a master boxer.

To me a master boxer is someone who can solve any style and almost never be outboxed.

Versatile and winning. Pernell definitely falls in that category. You cant put Pep in and Sweet Pea out.
