Many board members were probably told by mom (usually) "you are judged by the company you keep." And many sailors are taught "a rising tide raises all boats." Hearns was a part of a group of fighters that set perhaps the highest bar in the boxing divisions often considered the true premier cream of the crop in boxing, to those who truly follow the sport. Hearns was not only competative, but had victories and fights that are the stuff of history.
Like any big welter, Tommy had real advantages before he went to Middle... As great as Robinson was, some say he was best at his lightest... it stands to reason.
A couple of my own opinions...
Tito was a great puncher but the Motown, Maryland, Massachussets, central American gang shiats on him. Not in the same discussion period. As far as Tommy's punch resistance, consider the source. Hearns was not shaky he was fighting hammers!
I think Leanard was ultimately better... probably the best of the lot... But Ray Leanard was that good.Rockin' likes this.

Hearns gave Leonard a great fight and was winning on the score cards at the time of stoppage. If it's a 12 round fight he wins. I felt he was robbed of a win in their rematch. He gets a lot of heat for his two losses to Barkley, but honestly there is no shame in those losses, Barkley just had his number. One cannot tout the greatness of Leonard without Hearns being in the conversation.

on his highest possible platform he got stopped 2 times by his rival kingpins and that’s why he is slightly below them in history

There is no such thing as the best ever in any weight class or P4P. Someone, no matter Joe knows they are, will always have a different opinion.
