Holyfield looked to me like he only had the stamina to fight one round. Which is very strange, seeing how in-shape he looked.

With Bowe 3 there were all sorts of rumours, the heart problem resurfacing, him having a cold, many thought he was shot after the Moorer loss. How wrong many were. I'll admit I thought that Tyson 1996 was going to destroy him! He looked awful against Moorer, lacking energy against Bowe and lacking everything against Bobby Czyz. How wrong so many were?

He did have a great chin, I just wouldn't say it was better than Holmes......maybe on an even level. I remember the Smokin Bert Cooper fight and Bowe 1 as being jelly times for Holyfield.

All this did add up , but the major problem that ailed Holy was contacting Hepatitis A before the fight. He was cured during the fight, but if you contact such a disease before a fight you are never going to be 100%. It explains why he looked so ragged with so little stamina, generally things that you don't associate with Holy

Yes, Hepatitis too......I thought that was only a rumour though? it is a few years ago of course.

He did fight well in spurts that night, some nice combos and a knockdown too. Bowe wasn't bad either, it was his last decent night's work as an unshot fighter.

I've heard every excuse for that fight, at the time I thought they were just that.....excuses. We all thought he was shot from the Moorer fight, a heart attack waiting to happen, tired from all the wars........and this was nearly 16 years ago!

If someone would have said that Holyfield would still be fringe world class entering 2011 I'd have laughed at him for weeks.

He did seem to have some serious conditioning issues that night, he was technically there.....but without endurance.

The Moorer fight was similar, really strange endurance issues!

At 35, Ali wasn't "rolling" with too many punches. He didn't have the same reflexes and certainly not in the Shavers fight. He took flush shots from Shavers.

shavers had a very fast top speed compared to some one like foreman. this top speed allowed him to connect much more soundly at the moment of impact even with some one rolling the punch, but ali was still rolling his punches and making them alot softer.

Holyfield later claimed Hepatitis A. Judging by the way he fought I will be inclined to believe he was telling the truth.The way he fought in spurts made me think he was actually having problems because of fitness. And gauging by his addiction to fitness, I believe he was telling the truth. I would like to later provide other sources confirming that.
