Holmes has been hurt and knocked down more often and against much weaker punchers than Ali's. He was also knocked out COLD once when past his prime which never happened to Ali.
Now how are you gonna claim that they have the same chin? Video evidence suggests otherwise. Watch this vid again. Ali could take any shot Holmes took and keep standing and waving asking for more.
Dont forget that Ali could easily have been stopped in round 11 by Frazier in the Fight of the Century. I've seen refs jump in for far less than Ali absorbed in that round, he was staggering jelly legged all over the ring. Its probably the closest Ali came to being truely TKO'd (I'm not counting the Holmes affair in 1980).

ali had just finished jabbing and wasnt coming forwad into the punch. the punch also hit him more on the cheek bone then the button.
and it does look like ali attempted to roll the punch slightly, much much more then holmes did, his upper body moved back his head turned to the right along with his right foot stepping back and to the left pivioting his entire body with the punch.

hold a peice of paper with one hand and punch it. hold a peice of card board with one hand and punch it.....which did you connect more with?
now when the paper rolled with your punch....i guess it moved before you hit it right?.....
and i dont know about this comment stuff. im at work and cant visit youtube or watch any form of streaming media, i havnt even watched the vid you posted.
you say that and i say ali snapped his head back to take less of the hit.
im pretty sure im right, though i should really watch the vid first.
shavers had a very fast top speed compared to some one like foreman. this top speed allowed him to connect much more soundly at the moment of impact even with some one rolling the punch, but ali was still rolling his punches and making them alot softer.
they did ali just had better rolling skills.
What I'm saying is that Ali was hit when he didn't expect it. You cannot roll with a punch when you aren't prepared for it, and that is why you see Ali's head snapping back violently.
You did not even watch the video and you already jumped to conclusions huh? LOL. This guy I swear. He is discussing two moments in a fight with me even though he has not even seen it. Guess I got baited.
You're trolling and can't let this go. You followed me from youtube all the way to here to keep hyping up Larry Holmes.

And no, they were both hit on the jaw.

This video proves it. An old washed up Ali could take a much much harder hit than a prime Larry Holmes.

I'm not sure how solid Ali's chin really was, but his ability to not show hurt and recover when he was hurt was second to no one in boxing history.

With Bowe 3 there were all sorts of rumours, the heart problem resurfacing, him having a cold, many thought he was shot after the Moorer loss. How wrong many were. I'll admit I thought that Tyson 1996 was going to destroy him! He looked awful against Moorer, lacking energy against Bowe and lacking everything against Bobby Czyz. How wrong so many were?
He did have a great chin, I just wouldn't say it was better than Holmes......maybe on an even level. I remember the Smokin Bert Cooper fight and Bowe 1 as being jelly times for Holyfield.Last edited by JAB5239; 10-21-2010, 03:05 PM.
