Don King put together some amazing cards back in the 90s.

King is a scumbag though, in multiple ways. really just a terrible person.

probably the best way to put it is this:
King was one of the best promoters ever for the fans, but one of the worst promoters ever for the fighters that signed with him.

i totally agree with what you say, yet most of today's promoters are terrible for fight fans and the same promoter's are being sued on a regular basis by their fighters.. King was a Boxing fans best friend in terms of value-for-money & quality.

I think the card that he put on in St.Louis just a month back highlights how superior his cards are when compared to what the likes of Top Rank and Golden boy have to offer.

Overall,Don King has been a great figure for the sport of boxing.A larger than lie personality, who emerged from nothing into a name and personality that eclipsed both boxing and sports in general.

Guys like Lou DiBella,Dan Goosen and Gary Shaw don't have the slightest of clue when it comes to promoting. There's a reason why none of their fighters can draw a decent crowd and are still unknown to all except those who really follow the sport.

Tyson's developed into a sad,self-pitying parody of himself over the last three or four years.I don't like calling him that, but it's true - it's what he has become.

These boxers are old enough to look after themselves.Don King's number one priority is Don King.He looks after himself first and formost.I more fighters adopted this thinking then perhaps they wouldn't be broke and cursing Don King at every opportunity.

All the credit to him for making up some stacked cards, but boxing hardly needed Don King to make up fights like Foreman-Ali, Ali-Frazier III, now did it? Those fights made themselves pretty much, as did Ali-Frazier I even if Arum promoted it.

Tex Rickard promoted many great fights such as Johnson-Jeffries, Dempsey-Willard, Gans-Nelson and many others. I'm sure most historians today would give up their right arm to see a card featuring Jack Dempsey, Sam Langford and Harry Greb, like when Dempsey fought Miske for the title.
