And the reason they ALWAYS went back, and the reason why fighters, who knew his reputation, still signed with him is because even when getting jipped by Don King, he was still making you more money than anybody else could.

Read the book "Don King: His life and crimes" and you will have a better idea of how King really operated. Im not saying he wasn't a great promoter, but fighters often got duped with sneaky legalese or straight up intimidation to re-sign with him. Wait till Scott9945 gets here, he has a vast knowledge of Kings crookedness and underhanded ways in which he kept fighters.

As a promoter he's the best and has delivered the great fights that the public demanded and are sadly lacking of late. It's his opportunistic greed as an embezzler and meddler that have not only ruined careers, but left fighters who should have been millionaires on skid row and having to fight way into their 40's. Namely those who were managed by his flunky brother, Karl.

He may have promoted the great fights but he tarnished those accomplishments by ruining some great fighters when it was neither his business or his right to do so.
You have to hand it to him though - for years he's had the WBC, Senator John McCain and most of the State Athletic Commissions wrapped around his finger.

I don't even really want to go there Jab, lol. Too much work and not enough time to reply to every bit of DKBS that people buy into. But it is a FACT that Don King has been sued by more fighters than every other major promoter combined. It's nice that people have fond memories of some of his better fight cards (and forget the ones that were ****), but he succeeded at the expense and suffering of a lot of boxing people. A de****able human being. He can't die soon enough to please me.

The Boxing Fans greatest friend was Don King the best promoter in boxing history - Don King during the 1980s & 90s would put boxing shows on PPV that are simply unheard of in today's boxing world, Don King would put on 5 or 6 world title fights all on the same show on the same night for the cost of ?0 yet today we get one alphabet world title and a couple of bouts featuring `Tomato-can's` at a cost of ?6.99 which is laughable and the sole reason why boxing is dying as a mainstream sport. Don King would showcase fighters like Azumah Nelson, Julio cesar Chavez, Julian Jackson, Terry Norris, Meldrick Taylor, Gerald McClellan, Ricardo Lopez, Mike Tyson all on the same night on the same boxing show, Don King was the greatest promoter in the history of boxing.

I agree to a point Sonny he did put on some great shows but the 5 world title fights for ?0 was because the fighters only got 50p each
I think there was a deeper pool of talent back then with some high profile fighters whereas nowadays we are having a little bit of a fallow period with some notable exceptions.
A few posters have said that King bought a lot of money into the game but I would argue that was Ali more than King. King screwed over so many fighters but they signed to him because for one he is a convincing guy and a lot of fighters arn't overly smart business wise. Also for a long period to be a HW and not to be signed to King was career suicide. I think just look at Witherspoon's career and you have King.
So totally agree King put on some great shows but then Hitler made the trains run on time
