My top 10
It is extremely difficult to stipulate that one boxer would be better than another because as anyone knows, upsets do occur, i.e., Frazier beats Ali, Foreman beats Frazier, Ali beats Foreman. I will simply list a possible top 10 in order of appearance:
James J. Jeffreys: retired undefeated
Jack Dempsey: he had 25 knockouts in a row a record even today
Gene Tunney: retired undefeated
Joe Louis: held title 12-13 years, beat everybody, retired undefeated, then came back.
Rocky Marciano: retired undefeated
Muhammad Ali: twice held the title for years in 2 different decades, also the only one to knock out Foreman.
George Foreman: twice champion, the second time at age 45
Larry Homes: 2nd to Joe Louis in title defenses.
Mike Tyson: for a 3-4 year period nobody could touch him.
Lennox Lewis: defeated everybody in his time.
