What was Sam Langford boxing style ?

Was he a puncher or slugger or pressure fighter or a combination of 2 of the 3 or 3 of the 3 ?

On film, Sam was a pressure fighter who in-fought well, and was very strong. He had a good long ranged right hand and left hook. He was fast handed, accurate, and most importantly had the stamina to fight at a fast pace for a 20 round fight. He has great heart for battle, Sam had unusually long arms for his height. He did not use his jab much like the fighters seen today. In his prime he was very hard to stop via TKO / KO. His power level in his time was very good. From 1909-1915 he could have been the best heavy weight, light heavyweight o r middle weight around! He certeianly beat the best competition in these years!

While his defense was not good in the sense that his guard was low and did not move his feet on the outside. Yet he possessed good reflexes for defense. And could feint, parry, block and slip punches when he wanted to be defensive.

An ATG pound for pound fighter, he was.

Only footage I ever saw of him was against McVea.

They both fought old style, off the back foot. Both spent most of the time posturing and feinting, eventually lunging one punch at a time. Much, much grabbing.

Eventually Langford landed one of the lunges and won by KO.

It wasn't very impressive. Thet were both very strong.

What. Show me Langford and Mcvey, please. I think you are confusing that with Langford vs. Jeanette in Paris. Sam can also be easily found easily vs. Lang and Flynn. If you have only seen him once check out you tubes stuff on the man.

Boxer/puncher. He knew how to set traps, lure you in, counter punch, and was a very effective finisher.

            Lang Film:

Langford isnt great defensively, but is an absolute front foot slugging bully, who does a good job cutting off the ring and does a decent jab using his jab to work his way in against a bigger opponent (before just unleashing a barrage of power shots)
