What was Archie Moore Boxing style ?

Was he a puncher, swarmer or slugger ?

    #2
He knocked out nearly 2/3 of his opponents.

He was simply a bad ass in a bad ass time of badass fighters.

Slugging/swarming end up about the same thing, doe.

I tip my hat to Archie Moore................Rockin'

Somewhere between a boxer-puncher & a slugger (if we are just sticking with the relatively few standardized styles). If we are going in more depth, to me, at his best, he was what I would call a "power sniper". He had a tremendous jab and reach, which allowed him to remain at range when needed, and he liked coming in with power shots off that jab from range.

He didn't utilize the volume to really be considered a swarmer, and he was not the stick and move outside fighter. He was smart enough to counter well, so he could be considered a power counter puncher, but I think power sniper best describes him. At least at his Lt Heavy best.

That's how he got Harold Johnson when he stopped him, who was himself a great counter puncher, by countering the counter puncher. In a fight he was losing as well.

Great fighter, very underrated in my opinion. I have him ranked higher than most tend to rank him on the ATG list.

Too sophisticated a fighter to be a mere swarmer.

Too much savy to merely stand toe to toe and slug.

Didn't have the power to overwhelm an opponent as a puncher.

'Ole Mongoose had to work with his opponents. He neutralized; countered, laid traps (I like the above 'sniper' analogy.); weathered storms; Etc. . . .

. . . He brought more to the table, which often overwhelmed opponents who only had a single weapon avaiable. e.g. a slugger, a brawler, a puncher.

He wasn't any one of those things. If he was any one thing, it was cagey.

I don't think there's a single example of you ever making sense on this website.
