I go with this being a great back-and-forth fight with Larry getting a decision after many shaky moments.

Been done to death here. Bottomline is Tubbsy Lar who used to be skinny was never in the same class when the two were active on the timeline. The permanently Tubbsy Lar Fans gonna deny this to their death beds. Noone wanted to see them fight...NOONE!!!

I think that Foreman would drop Holmes and give him a tough, physical hard fight. But Holmes boxing skills and his durability would get him through and he TKO's Foreman late.Tony Trick-Pony likes this.

I would favor a prime version of Larry over prime George. Points decision in a very close fight, perhaps a SD. I would favor the comeback version of George to beat Larry during that same era of late 80's to mid 90's.Tony Trick-Pony likes this.

Larry Holmes beats him clearly. Foreman isn't good vs movers an old Ali and Jimmy Young beat him. Larry wins wide on pointsbilleau2 Tony Trick-Pony like this.

Jimmy Young outboxed a distracted Foreman he didn't beat him; he just did a great job of staying away from him and expectations made the achievement seem a 'big deal.'
Prime: Holmes had the boxing skills to beat Foreman but not the ring generalship to wait Foreman out. He would have tried to fight Foreman and would have been stopped early.
Ali was special - inside the ring was his universe; he was more relaxed, more confident in the ring then he was in the world. He was able to weather Foreman's power because he could relax into the fight and could control the flow of the fight from a completely defensive posture. Holmes didn't have that skill set; Holmes would have traded with Foreman.
1999: Eh, I once went to a Dodgers-Giants old timers day at the Polo Grounds (1963). Chuck Conners ran out and shot everyone with his Winchester- I was 8 years old, it was great. Holmes-Foreman 1999 - my money stays in my pocket.

I think your right as rain in mentioning these fights. Holmes and Foreman two tough nuts to crack. Foreman could probably cut the ring up against most boxer punchers, but Holmes was exceptional and when Young was exceptional he made it look relatively easy (with one rough patch) to beat Foreman. Ali was in another class, he just really took a tact that shows maturity and greatness. Ali had to have some provisional faith in what he did and his victory over Foreman was a fiat that stands on its own.
I think Liston, who mentored Foreman was good enough, in his prime, to beat Holmes... but alas, not Foreman.

I applaud you for giving one scenario where Foreman beats Holmes... I don't see it but Foreman was that puncher. lets keep in mind that Holmes beat Shavers but it was not easy.
