It's crazy because you could say that he wasted potential, but on the other hand, he was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

There's guys like Ken Norton who could never say that, who are in the hall of fame.
Ken Norton beat Ali in their 3rd fight and should of been undisputed heavyweight champion. Even Ali himself admitted that Ken Norton beat him all three times and he (Ali) knew he could never get a legit win over Norton. So Ken Norton beat Ali three times so that is good enough to get himself in to the Hall of Fame.

Well, he at least beat him twice, so I agree with you.

Jimmy Young beat him too and really got robbed.

But Young maybe got robbed against Norton, so maybe these things even out on some level

At the time the boxing wags were calling it a one round fight. The 15th.

Even before the scores were tallied, at the beginning of the 15th, it felt, in our gut, like the 15th would be the decider.

One could judge that round and decide who wanted it more and in a sense judge the fight.

(I kind of felt that way going into the 15th with Holmes-Norton.)

        Here's your Ali quote:
        • Ali said during an interview with Mark Cronin in October of 1976: "Kenny’s style is too difficult for me. I can’t beat him, and I sure don’t want to fight him again. I honestly thought he beat me in Yankee Stadium, but the judges gave it to me, and I’m grateful to them."
I can add that there is a story that Ali called Big George after he announced ('77) and told him he didn't want to deal with Norton again and Foreman should come out of retirement and take care of Norton for him, and he would give Foreman a rematch.

Don't know if its true, but Ali probably didn't like much the bad taste Norton III had left in the fans mouth.

          - - Norton and Ali were really only 6-1, so they need their greatness to be cut down to the 6-1 level...simples...

Please produce the quote from Ali in which he admitted Norton beat him 3 times, and that he could never beat him legitimately?

I thought I did above? -- Can't claim the source isn't corrupt. I have no clue who Mark Cornin is.
