James`buster`Douglas had a jab as good as any heavyweight in history, Douglas on his best nights was a very formidable fighting-machine, his best fights was against former champions, McCall, Tyson, Berbick & Tucker, with all of them being in their prime yet Buster`s jab was a huge problem for them all, Douglas jab was far better than the jab of Bruno, Lewis, The Klitschko`s, Valuev or any fighter since 1990

So much potential! Even if the peak Tyson turned up in Tokyo that night Douglas would have given him a good fight, some of his jabs and combinations were art.
He just couldn't stay in shape! On his day he'd beat a good few heavyweight champions.

yeah, too bad that there's lots of people around (and i will not give them respect by calling them fans) who still say "that bum that beat that mental midget...." Beyond pathetic.
douglas had a monstrous jab, i remember once saying that it wasnt any worse than Larry Holmes' jab. Buster had knocked down people with his jab.
also oliver mccal admitted that one of the hardest punchers he ever fought was douglas.
now james is not a great, and he will never crack that spot, but i think that people need to start appreciating the inner tiger in him that showed up once in a blue moon.

He was a good fighter at best, was in the right place at the right time to win the championship. He had a good jab, but Carl Williams' was better.

Yea William's jab was ok. Shame it only took only one Tyson left hook in 90 seconds to relieve him of his title aspirations immediately after slipping one of Carl's jabs. Though I think it was the immediate fight before Tyson fought Douglas.
I think that it is evident of Tyson's sheer lack of preparation for Douglas that he couldn't slip Buster's jab and land one decent left hook counter all night as he did against Williams!!

It's crazy because you could say that he wasted potential, but on the other hand, he was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
There's guys like Ken Norton who could never say that, who are in the hall of fame.
