look here Mr. hawkins, you bein 35 and been boxing for over 17 years is great an all but maybe it affected your brain, which i would'nt be suprise, unfortunanetly it's part of the contract we sign upon entering the ring, but if you read my posts i never said jones would win, i just said tyson would' NOT go in and just push jones around without paying any price, all jones has to do is keep from getting hit flush which he was pretty damn good at if you ask me, and tyson aint faced a heavywieght nearly as fast as jones if we want to put this fantasy match-up in the heavyweight division
jones would also have a better chin due to moving up, but ofcourse this does'nt register as any real deal in your 'matured' mind
How do you get a better chin moving up? A fighter might be quicker than the other fighter if he moves up although that depends on how he carries the weight. Better chin though? He packs an extra 10 lbs on it? The fact that he is fighting bigger guys he will obviously absorb their punches better because he has moved up in weight?
No can't see that one please explain?
if jones could last about 3 round landing nicely then he takes it, tyson cannot take a beating at all
I could probably beat a racehorse over a mile if I somehow got to within 6 inches of the finish line with the horse ten lengths behind me.
I love RJJ as a fighter and have ultimate respect for him, Tyson as a fighter I have a lot of issues with but Tyson would beat the granny out of Jones. TYson gasses after 6 or 7 rounds but RJJ isn't going to be in any condition if indeed conscious to take advantage of that.
The only way RJJ has a chance is if Tyson gets dysentary and goes down to Super Middleweight.
We are talking at heavyweight right not p4p?
Tyson would be too strong. Interesting concept, though. If Jones were a bit bigger he would have a shot.
If Jones maintained the same physical capabilities in bigger form, he'd obviously have a chance - a chance of beating just about any Hw in the history of the sport probably. So far nobody big enough has come close to having his physical gifts, the closest is Mike and Ali.
On top of that, Jones has never faced a fighter as fast as Tyson, let alone a heavyweight.
Not sure what makes you think Jones chin would be better at heavyweight. Bob Foster was a better lightheavy than Jones and he got starched when he moved to heavy. Billy Conn, starched when he fought the best heavy. Spinks, starched. Want me to keep going?
We're talking "prime" Tyson, 85' to 88'. Jones gets decapitated.
All true Jab and Jones would have never fought a prime Tyson. This is not John Ruiz we're talking about.
Considering RJJ ducked a Buster Douglas offer because there was "too much mass", we'd agree that Mike Tyson would have destroyed him. Douglas may have beaten Tyson but we can all agree Tyson was well out of it in that fight. The Douglas vs. RJJ match upwas such a bad idea that it was actually the reason RJJ's father started talking to him again, he had to tell him not to do it, he'd not only lose but get seriously hurt. RJJ agreed and declined.
RJJ actually went through a spell, during his heavyweight period, of calling out Mike Tyson, far as i'm aware Tyson ignored it and RJJ probably realised it was a ****** idea.
RJJ was a boxer, not a fighter. Mike Tyson had considerable skill, I would say RJJ had more though. However, RJJ was taught since a boy that boxing is about keeping yourself out of danger while inflicting as much damage as possible, and THEN to finish them off. Tyson went in to kill, finish them off as soon as possible. I don't think RJJ's speed or chin could have held up to Tyson, let alone a prime Mike Tyson. Jones was at his best when he had his guard low and leaned on his back leg, this is completely the wrong way to fight Tyson. Your guard would have to be up and you'd have to be free to move. Also, Jones was an outside fighter, Tyson would have got on the inside and torn him to pieces. It wouldnt have been that Jones wasn't good, nor good at keeping people on the outside, it's just Tyson would have been too much pressure, too much speed, too much strength and too much mass.
I would say, Jones would be down in the second, K.O, win for Tyson
P.S, Megadude. Tyson wasn't just a big guy, that's some ****** myth that people keep reciting. Tyson was not a) that big b) he wasn't a brawler. Tyson had an amazing amount of skill, the thing that killed Tyson's reign off was his lifestyle, that's why people continue to refer to the "prime Tyson" because there was a massive difference. Tyson's skill level was awesome. Jones' was probably better, despite no doubt losing to Tyson if they fought, but Tyson was by no means just a brawler.

going up in weight does improve you chin.
i dont know why but it does.
as a 13 year old lightweight, i would be on quire street from flush shots for half a round.
as i got older i just fought who ever was close to my weight in what ever gym i was in. by 18 i was a 5'6" 178lb slickster (at least i thought i was.)
to get rocked at that point in my life i had to get rocked by a strong puncher.
about four years ago, before i stopped fighting altogether, i was a 5'7" 210lb hw and the only punches that rocked me where the ones i couldnt see coming. which (admittedly) was happening more and more as i got older.
weight helps, heavyweights last longer, into there fortys these days
and their heavier now than they've ever been.
not saying jones would win, but it does help explain why jones could take a flush right from ruiz , but get dropped by a tarver straight left.
He knew Pacienza was past his prime but also had the kind of grit that ...
