Remember seeing him at least once and that he was terrible. Both cards at the Harringay fights look very familiar. Harringay was a regular haunt, didn't miss too many cards down there while it was going. You get to my age and you remember things like who you went with and where you eat and even what you eat on a particular night but no memory of the fight .My grandson is better at telling me who I saw, by spotting programmes/old tickets etc than me and he wasn't even born then!
Great!!! Ewart from all accounts appears to be medicore.

You are much senior to me GJC...

Thank god you have your grandson.

I remember watching him on TV against Yaqui Meneses. Everyone tuned in to see how well he was going to be and Meneses beat him up. Somehow Jones escaped with the decision but I guess it ruined his chances of amounting to much as a boxer.

And remember Mike White, he was also 6'10. He was limited and after losing to Adilson Rodrigues in Brazil, stayed for a season of pro basketball in the Brazilian pro league.

Actually your grandson did us a favour. You are one of the more knowledgeable guys here. I have to say your grandson is in good company. He will grow up to be good knowledgeable boxing fan (he already is a fan I hope).

Just a question which is the best heavy you saw live ?

Was fortunate enough to see Ali live in the Cooper rematch so I'd have to go with him. Living in UK you don't always get the big fighters over here, my big regrets were to miss Marciano and Pep fighting live. Never saw Liston and Louis fight live but met them. The other thing is when you do get the fighters over the pond you don't always see them at their best, I've seen SRR twice but neither time was he great. Missed Turpin v Robinson, long story for which I still don't forgive my father. Saw Ezzard Charles when he was awful which colours my opinion (unfairly I know!) of him. Got loads of autographs programmes etc for which my grandson has the responsibility of divvying up, so put your name down On something check out Harringay Arena btw, you'd be amazed the fighters that fought there.

The amusing thing during Cooper v Ali 2 was the collective groan that went up when Henry cut. Must be heard on a film or something
