Good opportunity to mention former Dallas Cowboy star Ed "Too Tall" Jones. He was 6'9 and once labeled the worst undefeated heavyweight ever.

This is one for you or somebody, I remember a huge heavyweight, either Canadian or South African. Mid 50s era, 95% sure he fought at Harringay and certainly in London a couple of times. Biggest guy I've ever seen and this was the 50s. He was a real novelty, only problem was he couldn't fight!
I'll know the name if I see it.

It will be Ewart Potgieter. He was 7'2" and a south african.

Forgot to mention Gogea Mitu 7'4" and John Rankin also 7'4".
Two tallest fighters of all time IMO.

          Jim Cully was 7'2".

Dig it up my freind. I think the heaviest fighter to fight in a ring was Carl Chancellor. He weighed 430 pounds. He fought from 1988-90.

Big heavy weights were there previosuly too. But generally they got slaughtered. Actually I do see Valuev not even being top 10 in the eras of the "smaller" heavy weights.

Looking at the bills at Harringay I must have seen this guy twice which vaguely rings a bell. Though I did think I saw him lose must have been the draw. Bad bad fighter though a very nice fellow.

Ewart I think had around 14 fights . he fought a draw with James J Parker. his most noteworthy fight.

Chancellor has a record of 4-6-2 not a great one. An ordinary fighters.

Btw When did you see Ewart ?

Would have been the 2 fights in Harringa Arena in 55. Remember the draw (well ish thought Ewart lost). Only memorable thing was the guys size to be honest. Remember seeing him at least once and that he was terrible. Both cards at the Harringay fights look very familiar. Harringay was a regular haunt, didn't miss too many cards down there while it was going. You get to my age and you remember things like who you went with and where you eat and even what you eat on a particular night but no memory of the fight .My grandson is better at telling me who I saw, by spotting programmes/old tickets etc than me and he wasn't even born then!
