Dempsey beats any heavyweight who ever lived, if Cooper & Frazier can put a peak Ali on the floor Dempsey would slaughter him.

Cooper and Frazier never put a peak Ali on the floor.

Dempsey was down in his career as well, and was knocked out by Fireman Flynn. The whole "x knocked down y so z would beat y" is kind of short-sided logic.

And to say that he's "easily" the best HW of all time is ridiculous.

i will stick by my judgment that Dempsey was "easily" the best...

it is not as "short-sighted logically" as you claiming Chris John to be the 3rd best fighter in the world today...

8)Joe Frazier. He did lost to Foreman but he acomplished more. He defeated more hall of famers, had more defenses of his title and was the reigning champion for a longer time than Foreman.
9)Ezzard Charles. He did lost to Marciano but i think he acomplished more. He had more title defenses and prove himself to more fighters than Marciano. Marciano retired to early in his career.
10)Evander Holyfield

Get used to that! Most of us revise our lists quite frequently.....even some of the most knowledgable posters out there. Hell, my bottom half of my top-12 Heavyweights is in constant flux with guys shifting positions: I think only my top-4 haven't changed over the past 25 years or so

I usually don't put what I call "near-greats" in any particular order but since I consider Lennox the best of the near-greats that would make him #13. Patterson falls somewhere between 14 and 20.

Well if I had to list the top 10, it would be:

1. Joe Louis
2. Muhammad Ali
3. Jack Dempsey
4. Rocky Marciano
5. Jack Johnson
6. Gene Tunney
7. Sonny Liston
8. George Foreman
9. Joe Frazier
10. Mike Tyson/Jim Jeffries

I don't consider any of these heavyweights the "worst" out of the bunch. They are all great and have doneeverything a champion must do. They worked hard and got where they are. I'd like to include John L. because he was America's first major sports hero, but in comparison with the other heavyweights on this list, he didn't do enough or face the competition they did, and msot of his career fights were of the Bare Knuckle variety under London Prize Ring Rules, though he did pioneer the use of gloves for contests.
