Magnolia is a very interesting film, and tom cruises only good performance EVER. He rocks as the male self help guy. "Tame the c**t!".

I watched the beat that my heart skipped last night, a french film about a fella who is a property owner/thug and retakes up the piano (his mum was a concert pianist). It wasn't amazing, but it had a kickass soundtrack, a mixture of classical piano music and techno or something other.

      Next on my list is

      Sunshine
The wind that shakes the barley
      Russian ark
      Ratatouille

      Anyone watched any of these?

Anybody seen The Bourne Ultimatum yet?

i think ratatouille was pixar's worst film so far. ratatouille was okay, but i would not watch it again. i loved all of pixar's other films.

i saw i now pronounce you larry and chuck and i thought it was really funny and entertaining as are most of adam sandler's films.

i've seen sunshine, it's very good, and like stander it has debra kara unger in it ( God, she is beautiful... i'm seconds away from posting a pic here)

mmm, i have a hunger for deborah unger. i don't even like blondes but she's just too beautiful.... anyways, uh, what were we talking about? oh yeah, sunshine. i first saw it in a indie theather in saskatoon when i was going to university. really absorbing film, great performances by ralph fiennes -- he plays several characters in the film, but the last one is his best acting. actually, this film and stander are very similar in quality, except u get to see a lil more of debra kara unger in sunshine. she does not have a shaven haven. man it's hard to concentrate on anything with women like her around, that's probably my one beef with a lot of these films, the women are too beautiful, i can't concentrate on the story, but anyway, optimus ginge, if u like stander, u'll like sunshine

                  Latest 3 films watched

Ratatouille - only just about worth watching. it wasn't funny, and the story was pants. Good animation though, even if they tried to ape aardman style a wee bit.

A very long engagement - decent film, it's got audrey tatou's ass in it and a good narrative, slowly revealing a bit more about what happened. It can't have been that good however, because i find the first world war fasciniating and this didn't really catch my imagination. On that note, make sure you read Birdsong by Sebastien Faulks.

This is England - A pretty cool film about a young lad growing up in t'north during the rise of the skinhead culture of the 80s. The first half hour is ****ing brilliant, you really feel like you're watching life unfold before your eyes. I didn't much care for the scenes towards the end, they detracted a little from the overall tone.

                  Next up (intended)

                  Sunshine
                  A man for all seasons
                  Russian Ark

My girlfriend is bound to make sure we don't watch these three next....

here's another film none of u have ever heard of. i watched one called Aimee and Jaguar a few nights ago. it's a beautiful story about two very hot, and i mean physically perfect when i say hot, german lesbians in 1944 who fall in love with each other. it's quite a beautiful film, even though the ending is a little predictable

last night i also saw a low budget canadian indie film ( yeah, i know, i watch a lot of these ) called perfect pie. it's a little slow moving but the characters are psychologically interesting. also the town featured in the film is very much like a smaller version of where i live ( imagine the redneck violence in the film boys don't cry - where i live is just like that )

                      thanks for the reviews filth.

                      Latest viewings

Sunshine - Decent enough movie but not hard to see why it flopped. A very slow moving sci-fi, which builds good tension over an hour or so, before ruingin it by introducing a new character that changes the whole tone of the piece, much like the change in dusk til dawn but not nearly as effective.

A man for all seasons - a pretty good historical movie from the 60s detailing the demise of Thomas More during the reign of henry VIII. Its directly from a play, which shows in excellent dialogue but perhaps limited use of the uniqueness of cinema. Worth a look if you'd like to learn about british history a little.

The wind that shakes the barley - Excellent film, apart from the first 15 mins which were a bit sensationalised (Ken Loach is a raving ******* so its to be expected). A really good exploration of what happens when an army wants to become a government - very topical and historically accurate to boot.

Bourne Ultimatum - Ok, here goes. I didn't find the film THAT exciting. It lacked the intrigue of the first film (and the second) - I just didn't really care what bournes origins were. having said that, as an exposition of an action film it should be studied in film schools - there are no unnecessary lulls in the pace, and no unnecessary action either. Everyone else loved this movie, including my gf who isn't into action flicks.

                      Casablanca (to review)
