Yeah a family member has been dealing with liver disease and it's nothing to take lightly...what you are saying does not sound good. I'd be looking into it very carefully with a doctor...giving yourself another 6 months of drinking if what you say is true is about the dumbest thing I've seen on here...and that says a lot. Alcohol is the biggest cause of cirrhosis and liver cancer and I'd want to know the details because your life may be taking a real ugly turn here. Did you only have a blood test or anything else? You need to know that the liver gives no warnings when it's heading into a bad place until it gets there...then you can forget about life as you know it.

Liver failure is no joke. It's one of the most painful ways to go out.

I gave up drinking myself.

I'm pretty much a machine when it comes to drinking beer! Drink loads every day and have for years now. I'm a fu@king animal really lol. Lately decided to try give up. Went to the doc and she took bloods to do a liver function test. Got the results yesterday and failed miserably!
She said the test is divided into 3 parts and most heavy drinkers have 1 (abnormality) but i have 3. Basically 40% of my liver is just dead cells....beast i know!!
So now i have to dry out for a while and do another test in 6 months to see how much it repairs itself.
I was pretty shocked actually! So i'm going to keep drinking till sunday and try go dry for 6 months after that.

Why don't you just quit drinking? I quit drinking 10 years ago never touched the stuff. My friend got some fatty liver thing and his liver got screwed up bad from drinking.

Is drinking worth getting a liver transplant?

Just enjoy food, start learning to cook, you will enjoy it better and if you drink limit your drinking to like on beer every other day man, you dont even have to completely cut it out.

Not quite, alcohol breaks down into acetate basically, it has no nitrogen to form ammonia. A damaged liver cannot breakdown the ammonia from protein digestion into urea which can damage the brain.

Not really up to speed in what happens specifically on a biochemical level but understand if a liver can't effectively remove toxins from the blood it going to end up causing hapatic encephalopathy.
