This is a lie. Klitschko was committed to Jennings before Wilder was even a champion. Then Klitschko owed Fury an overdue mandatory, which would have been difficult to avoid as Fury was simultaneously the WBA and WBO mandatory.

Klitschko and Wilder had the same manager, who said Wilder needed two quick defenses before he'd be ready for Klitschko. So Wilder made two quick defenses before Klitschko even fought Fury. Wilder went public in a major article before the Klitschko/Fury fight calling out Klitschko for a fight in 2016. A fight being planned by Finkel for SHO PPV as soon as Klitschko's HBO deal was up.

Big problem. Klitschko was shockingly upset by Fury, ruining the whole plan.

But your claim that Wilder avoided unification is ridiculous because Klitschko lost all of his titles the same year Wilder won his title.

You could say the same for many fighters. Take AJ for example..

AJ fought Charles Martin who was arguably the worst champ in history, winning via leg injury. It was effectively buying a world title from Martin.

Fought Wlad who was 41, ripe for the picking after coming off a loss and a long layoff. There was never a better time to fight him. Wlad was slipping for a while. Fury finished him off and AJ went life and death with a 41 year old shell of a fighter.

Got a unification with Parker who had been a poor champion, barely sc****d past Andy "Butterbean" Ruiz and then was underwhelming in all his defences. Any decent fighter was going to take that belt. Even Hughie Fury could have if he'd have let his hands go a bit more. AJ saw all this, slipped in there and took an easy belt, and didn't even look that good doing it.

Now he's turned down $50m and he'll fight a Povetkin who has looked like crap in his last 2 fights, coming up 40 and looking it. Nice name to add to the resume with little danger because he's over the hill.

Smart in a way, despite losing a huge payday, he keeps the gravy train rolling and adding names to his record that don't actually pose much danger. Just good timing and matchmaking.
