The Ward Kovalev fight was this year's big chance to have an event fight that grew the sport. And if Kovalev had won I think the whole atmosphere about this fight would be different. There wouldn't have been this controversy. So the attention would be on what a great battle it was - because it was a great battle - Ward showed huge heart and skill even if he lost his stock is up. But instead any benefit for the sport has vanished, swallowed up in controversy. Boxing shot itself in the foot - again.

FitzBitz highlighted a very serious problem that I've noticed myself among my friends: after the KD, people just started saying Ward lost. Too many people score boxing matches like 2 guys scrapping in the middle of the street. The guy coming forward isn't always winning. Most people I know that think Kovalev won largely or completely ignore all of Ward's body work, and say that he lost because "the other guy was punching harder!"

It's like dealing with a bunch of Ledermans

A smart, down to earth pro Floyd/Ward/USA biased garbage...

        I was expecting it too.

but putting the Cone of Silence to one side for a sec.....

MOST knowledgeable observers have said that it was a very close fight that could have gone either way..... some have it for Ward, but agree that Kovalev could have gotten the nod..... some have it the other way around.....

it is the casual fans who think that fight was a " robbery "..... the same guys who sulk and indicate that they are switching to MMA LMAO..... or who immediately pull the race card..... and many of those observers are the same guys who think that Pacquiao beat Mayweather

so yea, I think that was a fight for the purists, and it proved that a lot of casual fans have dip-**** scoring criteria..... most of the clowns who are screaming robbery actually thought that Kovalev was going to walk through Andre Ward, so that tells half the story at least

no one is ignoring it but the rules do say clean punching and a lot of his body work was landing low or to the back etc..kov was doing clean punching throughout the fight and more of it hence why he won.

This was a championship fight, the most important of the year, not some whatever scrap where you review rounds a dozen times to try justify some BS manufactured result.

if that comment is true..... then Kovalev totally blew that fight

if Kovalev could not KRUSH pitty-pats, then HE FAILED

he missed a ton of punches, especially down the stretch

and Ward's jab disrupted him big time, that was a thing of beauty..... Kovalev never adjusted to Ward's jab..... ALL the casuals said that Ward will not be able to keep Kovalev off him..... truth is, Ward kept Kovalev honest with his jab/movement, backed up with that hook/bodywork

But now suddenly you guys want to change it back and give more weight to dirty inside fighting, since the foreigner was the one landing the clean head shots this time.

Total hypocrisy. If they don't make the rematch by March I'm just going to forget about it and leave this corrupt sport to the only fans dumb enough to keep apologizing for it. Y'all deserve what the sport has become.

of course it does, don't be ridiculous

and Kovalev missed a TON of punches, especially during the second half..... I think compubox often scores anything that hits gloves arms shoulders, Ward was much more accurate

Yeah man, that's how I feel about it. If a round is close (like rounds 10 and 12 were), they should go to the champ. Kovalev should have won a UD by at least a point or two.

Andre Ward... the new Timothy Bradley!

It was a great fight to watch, but that decision should have gone to Kovalev. Forget SOG's zero

Ok, this is borderline trolling. The author should wear the cone of shame for this one.
