Comments Thread For: Andre Ward Proud' He Got Off The Canvas To Beat Sergey Kovalev

LAS VEGAS Andre Ward has accomplished plenty during his 12-year professional boxing career. Perhaps nothing makes him more proud than what he did during the second round of his grueling fight Saturday night against Sergey Kovalev. Ward got off the canvas in the second round following the first knockdown he suffered in 11 years, regained his composure and eventually neutralized Kovalev's vaunted right hand to take control during the second half of an extremely competitive light heavyweight title fight at T-Mobile Arena.

And that's the beauty of boxing that casuals can not comprehend as such they interpret these decisions as a 'robbery' its not about who does the most damage or who shows more heart by getting off the floor in a fight : its about clean punching, effective agression; ring-generalship and defense! I keep reading these guys talk about '' Kovalev landed the harder shots!'' but what about ring-generalship who was dictating the fight? where they fought when they fought? who had better defense throughout the fight? that's what separates boxing from a street-fight -- skills trumps power in this game.

      kinda similar to Pacquiao/Marquez I

when one guy knocked the other guy down 3 times in the 1st round AND broke his nose, but did not actually win the fight..... you know he got a damn good boxing lesson

Ward lost in my opinion, but that's just an opinion. What's a fact is that Ward is a true fighter with a lot of heart and he deserves respect whether you agreed with the judges or not.

                  Look forward to the rematch.
