The only time a fight like this is even intriguing, let alone competitive, is when the smaller fighter has superior speed to the larger fighter. Cotto is not as fast as Sergio, who is two weight classes larger, has superior footwork, hits harder, and is probably even physically stronger. He's also a more intelligent fighter, and he's a southpaw.

Cotto has superior boxing ability and a better jab. That's it. He's slower, overrides his own above-average intellect with dumb emotional choices in the ring, and isn't hard to find. Why on earth is he fighting this man?

But does Cotto have to be just as fast as Martinez or just be that much faster than the opponents Sergio has fought in the past 2 years? Who has faced the faster fighters recently?

Paul Williams survived the loaded gloves and actually won and as for the Pacquiao fight if you agree to the contract you lose any weight in an argument thereafter.

True about Paul Williams (who was a much busier fighter than Cotto), but the point remains that no boxer to my knowledge (aside from Margarito) has criciticized Cotto for taking a knee. That's my point. It's only the keyboard warriors who criticize him. Boxers seem to know better.

Regarding the contract issue, I could be wrong, but I don't think Cotto publicly complained about the Pac contract. I was just pointing out that he has good reason to be demanding in negotiations in light of the fact that he's been taken to school in the past. What you seem to be suggesting is that Martinez should not complain about Cotto's diva-like demands because Martinez signed the contract, right?

I'm one of the biggest Cotto fans on this site... But even I know that Sergio is too much for Cotto. I'm happy that Cotto is taking the challenge and that he will fight anyone (unlike some fighters).. He always gives us a great fight and he is a true warrior. But I think he bit off more than he can chew.. Ill still be in attendance cheering him on but I don't think he's gonna win..

Cotto is 1-2 in his last 3 fights,Martinez has only loss 2 times in his entire career people that think this fight will be competitive are crazy,look for Cotto to be in vintage knee form by the tenth round and camera shots of his wife and kids crying by around the 7th.
