I think Cotto's speed will cause Martinez lots of problems. You can be fast, but if your not used to having speed coming back at you, you could be in serious trouble. I think Cotto has the more effective jab of the two. I've seen Cotto drop guys with jabs (Clottey, Gomez), and Martinez gets caught off balance a lot in fights. Martinez has never faced a fighter like Miguel Cotto. Martinez has made a career at 160 beating taller, slower, plodding fighters. Cotto is none of the above. Cotto's foot speed will be key here as I expect him to be able to stay with Martinez and get inside where it's a mismatch in Cotto's favor. Cotto is excellent on the inside where all of Martinez' perceived advantages will become disadvantages. I don't believe for a second Cotto's just going to be eating shots in this fight. Cotto is the better technical fighter here, his defense is in my opinion much better than Martinez who relies on movement and reflexes which decline as you get older. Mayweather, the most accurate puncher in the game was only able to land 25% of his shots on Cotto. Don't let Cotto's face fool you, it easily swells since the first Margarito fight. I wouldn't expect the Cotto that fought Trout to show up. I don't think he got up for trout. I'm expecting the Terminator. I got Cotto by TKO inside ten.Last edited by thatdudespits; 03-13-2014, 12:37 PM.

Dude Cotto got his ass beat in brutal fashion more than once. Not many fighters can return to glory after those beatings. Soo to say that Cotto has more left is not true at all. I would say it can be called even. Even though Martinez will have size strength and speed advantage.

It is my opinion that Cotto had the potential to be an all time great, but was cheated out of his true prime. That's one of the worst things that can happen to an athlete. All nationalities aside, I think he deserves a little more understanding from so-called boxing fans.
And for those who are ripping Cotto for his demands for the Maravilla fight, I think Cotto got taken to school in the negotiations for the Pacquiao fight (particularly in having coming down to 145), and it cost him dearly. Now he's going up to fight the true middleweight champ. I can understand why he wants every advantage he can get and wants to control the terms in any way he can. He probably believes that he lost the Pacquiao fight before he ever got to the ring and isnt' going to let that happen again. It may backfire, but he's going to try to control what he can.

The only time a fight like this is even intriguing, let alone competitive, is when the smaller fighter has superior speed to the larger fighter. Cotto is not as fast as Sergio, who is two weight classes larger, has superior footwork, hits harder, and is probably even physically stronger. He's also a more intelligent fighter, and he's a southpaw.
Cotto has superior boxing ability and a better jab. That's it. He's slower, overrides his own above-average intellect with dumb emotional choices in the ring, and isn't hard to find. Why on earth is he fighting this man?

I have not heard another boxer diss Cotto for taking a knee against Margarito -- except for Margarito himself. That's because the fighters know that there's no shame or loss of honor in taking a knee against a guy whose gloves are probably loaded.
