A swan song. He has nothing for Martinez. Roach knows it too.
When Freddie was training Jr. he even said "Martinez is a different type of animal.
I also noticed that the only ones on this site that are rooting for MC are the PR fan base. I feel you. He's your peeps, & you have that PR pride.
But Martinez is something of a nightmare for your man. Sergio is the bigger man, the faster man, the real power puncher in this match. He will beat Miguel to the punch everytime. Cotto will be punch shy. You see it all the time. You can picture Roach tell Miguel to let his hands go, but Sergio will be too overwelming. He has a pt to prove to you, the public, his critics, the media, & GGG, & his camp.
Kinda feel sorry for Miguel in this fight. It might be another Margarito beatdwn, with Roach not sending him out for the 8th, or 9th rd....
Disagree. It will be exactly the opposite. Cotto will initiate and will score more... Until he starts eating power shots.

its hard for me to imagine anyone but cotto fans wanting him to win. If cotto wins, and takes the belt whats next? He can't fight GGG! serg should win this, but if he loses cotto will have a huge win for his legacy

Agreed, SSM. Cotto is ballsy enough to fight GGG but it seems unlikely.
BTW, the chick in my avatar shared your GGG tribute on Twitter. Funny stuff man.

He will b gunshy. if he thought Margarito beat him dwn, well Sergio will be a massacre.
Again IK that's your dude, but he has nothing. He did noting against a bigger lefty in Trout, and now he's fighting a slicker, more powerful version!

Again, disagree. Not initially. Cotto will go after him. Cotto will initiate. After he starts taking damage? Yes, very likely he will go on the defensive and start backpeddling.

See you in this thread after the fight.
Martinez has the speed, height, reach, and footspeed advantage, he will beat Cotto to the punch. If I were Cotto I would not try to beat Martinez to the punch, I would try to get started quickly, rush him and double the left hook to the body and head--easier said than done.

I don't want to see these guys fight, love em both to death. A-Wolf makes a good point, I too can envision Cotto starting things off and being the aggressor.. it's Martinez's sporadic straight lefts and rapid combinations which will determine what route MC elects to follow. Traditionally when met with overwhelming speed or pressure from southpaws Miguel has always been a little unsure of how to react as compubox from fights with Judah, Manny and Trout will reveal.
In situations where he may have won (see Corley, Quintana, Judah) it was his grit that pulled him through, a killer instinct that may have been quelled post Margarito. Against Quintana he soaked in damage from a guy who was actually outboxing him early on before Cotto's own body attack finally wore him out. In other words, MC's resilience and relentless pace allowed him to brawl it out against Quintana who was otherwise moving laterally and making him miss, landing hard shots of his own, e.g.
I still see this as a 50-50 fight when you factor in the intangibles. The layoffs, injuries, age, losses. I'd like nothing more than for Miguel Cotto to finally have that one career defining win that he deserves but he's going to have to want it. He thought he could walk through Trout and realized on fight night he was legitimately facing stiff competition for the first time in a long time. This time he must come prepared to go the full 12 rounds. And go hard. Anything less than total commitment is recipe for disaster. He better watch Manny closely, and learn all he can about what it takes to be a champion while he's in the Philippines.
Not too sure how Cotto wins. But I'll be rooting for him. I hope he makes history for PR. Both guys are on a rapid decline and one more loss is surely a ticket to retirement.
