I'm not sure it was luck. He worked out a very successful way of winning fights - even with china hands. Just look at Calzahe's face, not even a hint of a blemish from over 40 fights, he was a very smart guy in the ring.
I remember before Lacy watching him fight one handed for half a fight after breaking his hand early on, still won convincingly!
Luck has nothing to do with it. Joe is one of the best technical boxers of the last 30 years. Go ahead and dispute that all you want, but that's a proven fact. Not just that, but he's tough as nails and has an excellent chin. His stamina is also good.
Calzaghe fought the best competition that was avaliable. He was not lucky he was just a great fighter. He had bad hands ever since the Sakio Bika fight and his power diminished quite a lot over the years so he was more often than not boxing his way to decisions (decisive decisions though).
He wanted to fight Bernard back in the day but he didn't want it. Also, many say why didn't he fight Dawson after Roy. Well i didn't see Chad Dawson chasing the fight much either. Same story with Roy Jones Jr. back in the day. Not saying he ducked him but he didn't exactly express his desire to fight Calzaghe.
Calzaghe gets a raw deal for not fighting these guys in their prime or whatever, but the fact is they didn't want Calzaghe either so i think you have to put the blame on both parties not just Calzaghe.
That is ******. How can you be lucky to stay undefeated? This isn't ********. This is boxing. A full contact sport. Sure, you could say he was lucky he wasn't KO'd with one good punch. But then that must mean Roy Jones in his prime was lucky, Ali in his prime was lucky and so on.
says the calzaghe fan. calzaghe fught old roy jones and stole the fight from b- hop. ****** welshman.
if anyone is ****** it appears to be you boy.
I like Joe Calzaghe becuase i found his fights entertaining. I liked his high stamina, great hand speed and good chin. His technical abilities were also good.
