FACT: Joe Louis was 75 years old when he fought Marciano.

secondly yes. louis lost to an german gatekeeper who was literally hitlers golden boy.
No schmeling wasn't a ****. Even the **** party was giving him trouble for refusing to join. He helped ***s evade the Holocaust. Schmeling was actually strong of character and not a **** by any Margin.

What what I read, Goebbels attached the defeated Schmeling to the air born and he was dropped into Crete. Supposedly Goebbels decided that Schmeling's new value was reduced to that of becoming a 'dead hero.'

I'm pretty sure it was true; he ended up in combat. They wanted him dead.

They (****) were pretty pissed with what happened. In '38 they cut the newsreels (in Germany) by mixing rounds from the '36 fight with the '38 so it looked more competitive to the German audiences.

But I agree with you. In one sense everyone was a **** to some decree and at the end no one was a **** it seems.

What was in his heart is impossible to say.

He was, after he defeated Louis in '36, Goebbels' poster boy for white supremacy.

That is why (most historians think) the Americans nixed the Braddock fight in '37, they could see that Goebbels intended to hold the HW Championship hostage once Schmeling won it from Braddock. I.e. It is unlikely, had Schmeling taken the title from Braddock, that Schmeling would have been allowed to fight in the States again.

He most likely wouldn't have. But that wouldn't have been any doing of his own. Schmeling helped save ***ish children. He was associated with ****'s, but never a **** himself.
Of course that was probably of no consequence to Americans at that time.
