Are We Sure Ali Was Better Than Louis?

?? My post had nothing to do with yours; just making a positive comment on what I felt was admirable in KD's.

I understand that. But I want to make it clear that I have genuine reasons to rank Ali higher over Louis. Not because of color film or visibility.

Joseph is correct, Louis did not fight anybody of Liston, Foreman or Frazier's level, Ali would bash Louis imo good.

Although I strongly disagree, K-DOGG I have never seen be un-objective it is true!

I rate Joe Louis number one! His Methods & Techniques are superior to heavyweights from his era to the current contenders. He was schooled by a great trainer and continued to learn technique throughout his career!
His offense was filled with body & head work using both hands equally with power in both hands. He blocked and slipped then countered with both hands (something no one does today) he was methodilcal and in great shape to be able to punch hard early and late in his bouts!
He was the most complete Heavy then and now to me! Perfect size 6'2"/ 190 to 200lbs. Fought anyone and everyone! .....was an American Hero and a credit to his race................the Human race! Ray

Ali was anomaly, he did modst things wrong (leaning away, rarely body worked etc) but had the fastest hands & feet ever seen in the division. He was first known as the Sugar Ray of the Heavyweights! His laterial movement made him untouchable and his in & out moves astounded opponents!
I believe Ali at his very best would be unbeatable!

Ali fought much better competition. That's why I rate him over Louis.

Muhammad does have Sonny, Frazier, and Foreman i'll put those over anyone Joe fought. But i'd rate as a boxer, Louis better. He also has two very good records, of longest reigning heavyweight champion and most successful defenses.

So we're willing to consider that Clay might not have been as good as 1930's Louis but cannot get our heads around him maybe not being as great as Lewis or a Klitschko?? Hmmm. Strange world.

I wonder if Mike Tyson would have been able to handle himself against Jack Broughton of the 1700's?? Surely Tyson could never put em together with such a devastating opponent as old Jack?? LOL

Yeah this. I choose the guy with the longer title reign just slightly over the guy to become the first to win the lineal heavyweight title 3 times. It's close, but I give the top spot to Louis among heavyweights.
