Doesn't compare to alis opposition and the effect he had on boxing. People do forget about louis but Ali is the greatest of all time, no question, yeah louis dint mouth off that he was but Ali had the confindence to say it and PROVE it in dramatic fashion

Ali was a unique talent, he was the fastest Heavy ever and had alot of skills!
However Joe Louis had combination punching with power in BOTH hands and was terrific at setting up punches that could damage his opponents. He worked hard on gaining leverage and balance to correct early career faults in his arsonal. Temendous body puncher with an acurate jab that hurt people!
To me he's the most complete Heavy of all time. I do believe that Ali could win against him but great fighters are capable of defeating each other!
I think Louis vs Holmes is a better fight!!!! Two guys who became
steppers" or shuffled their feet so that they had power for their punches all the time. Larry was not known as a big puncher but he knew how to grab the canvas with his toes and punch with speed and was a very accurate puncher with as good or posiblly better jab than Joe's!
Imagine the sell out crowds in Yankee St.
using the likes of...........Louis, Ali, Holmes, Dempsey, Marciano, Forman, Johnson............all fighting each other!!!!

Another Ali vs Louis thread? Damn, I keep wondering when people will get tired of it. The world will always be split by 50-50 on either side when it comes to debating who was the greatest.
Personally for me, it was Ali. But if you claim Louis I surely understand why.

Although if you're talking pound for pound, names like Robinson and Charles will always enter into the discussion as well.
