Does anyone still think the old time heavyweights were too small to be competitive in the modern era?

Most of those HWs from.the 30s 40s and 50s would be fighting at 168 or 175 today.

Usyk would have performed exceedingly well against the old time fighters with superior movement and power, especially with the small gloves and the extra rounds which benefits high fight IQ boxers. It would have been no match for the gross of them.

Yeah it certainly would not benefit a fighter using a high guard if the gloves suddenly got small. And considering Usyk has fought in an ammy high guard his entire career, I highly doubt he would adapt a ride and roll skill in one year. Marciano would plant howitzers on his forearms - rendering his arms useless like he did to many others who didn’t even present their arms to him. Among many others things. He’s a hell of a lot stronger than people presume as well - under the misguided opinion due to his weight. I think Marciano gets rid of him in about 5-6 rounds after chasing him down.

I'm wondering why Fury's,AJ's,and Dubois' punches did not have the same effect on Usyks arms as you predict Marciano's would?

Thing with Usyk power is that he might not throw the heavy haymakers that Marciano can throw, however each one of those stinging shots may result in fractural damage, especially with the small gloves. And we do not know how Marciano would react/deal or even understand that type of devastation before having his orbital bone rearraganged since it will be very hard to catch Usyk with single type shots.

Its been noted in all his books he targeted the forearms. ali told him to stop hitting his arms.

power I can’t prove with words so we can drop that one sure. Let me just say, from my own observation and brief ring experience - I personally view him as the hardest puncher on film I have ever seen. With Langford a close second and likely Shavers 3rd, but the 3rd spot is up for debate. In my opinion, not a fact.
