Johnson broke Langford's nose ,cut his eye, and floored him three times for long nine counts.Sam did not go looking for any immediate rematch.
Sam Woodman took out the add, challenging any fighter...

  • So being put through the ropes in a sparring session by an acknowledged big puncher proves your chin is vulnerable ?
    Is this your position?
In 76 fights Johnson was actually ko'd twice does that suggest to you that his chin was vulnerable?
First you have to prove the vulnerabilit...

  • Jeffries was open about his discrimination against blacks .and as you say he was following the status quo.Im not singling him out ,I'm deflecting the implication which has been posted here many times byJeffries fans.[ the chief of whom has reappeared under an alt ,]that Jeffries would have been willing...

  • Jeffries would have earned more from fighting either Johnson or McVey then he received for fighting Munroe. both Johnson and Jeffreis received a third each of the film rights which was a very considerable amount of money, there was no talk of films of the fight being banned before the fight....

  • No according to both Johnson and Smith,Smith knocked Johnson halfway through the ropes.

Not that I think its of any importance sparring partners sometimes drop their employers, and Smith was a good puncher
You would need to have an agenda to think it means anything significant....

  • If Jeffries had accepted the guarantee he was offered, don't you think McVey would have fought him?
Johnson made Munroe look silly in each round, how is that a failure?
Jeffries steadfastly refused to defend his tile against a black man, this is inarguable....

  • He didn't drop him ,he knocked him half way through the ropes, according to Smith,Johnson sparred a further 6 rounds with 3 different sparring partners that afternoon.
The average weight of Johnson's challengers was the highest up until Joe Louis' reign ....
