    Harder puncher: Marciano or Liston?

    How do you see it?

Why not include Saddler and make it a trio?

Liston hit harder than rocky no question. He'd have walked through the smaller men rocky fought. Rocky was a huge hitter for his size for sure and he was devastating against lower opposition but more wore people down in particular in his later fights, ****ell a good example, he hit him with everything often and he didn't get sparked out. Liston had more power imo and he would have sparked ****ell and moore rather than wore them down with an accumulation of punches.

Rocky was more of a one punch artist when he was younger though. Often think he may have got less damaged in fights and had a longer career if he still adopted that one punch offensive.

Is KO% enough on it's own, or do you have to put it in context?

            Liston without a doubt.

Liston had a jab that was like a pole axe. He probably had a harder cross as well. But Marciano had that heavy handed and got his body into his shots... Marciano's shots came from the physiological apex... Like when you watch an Ape hitting something. Marciano managed to do this in the ring, by fighting out of a crouch and being perpetually centered... Liston was diametrically opposite. He hit like the apex of a trained fighter... Liston often is overlooked in terms of form, when in fact he had the technical form of Joe Louis on his punches... But his shots came from shoulder level, not above the head. he actually losses some weighteness to marciano in this regard, but you cannot see his punches as easily, he had that jab to work behind, and was faster than Marciano.

All things considered I would give the nod to Liston, but not by much, and with the caveat that heaviness can be a very real and jarring affect of a blow.

                - -Rocky and Sonny had overlapping careers, but Sonny weren't never in the class of Rocky when it coulda counted.

Let me explain something for our neophyte friends. Marciano is the hardest hitter of all time. There are several bonafide reasons, not the least of which was that ol' Rock was near perfect size for a heavyweight, allowing him to deliver his punches in bunches and more quickly and efficiently than oversized galoots who call themselves heavyweights. When a man beats you to the punch you do not see it coming. Since you cannot constantly watch every angle, Rock was bound to eventually catch you with one you did not see coming. He beat white men black & blue and black men yellow and purple, and that is well documented on their arms alone. His body punches nearly burst the veins of opponents.

Marciano could clearly ****, incredible power for his size but Liston was a monster. He'd be knocking out heavyweight fighters today if he was in his prime. Hardest puncher ever, got to be Big George?
