A question about the Olympic style/rules.

Is it true, or was it ever true, that an Olympic boxer was not allowed to duck under a punch?

As in: that martial art of boxing is/was as much about properly blocking punches as it was delivering them.

But I am not sure of that was actually a rule.

You mean modern don't you? I dunno.

In the ancient version you could block or move but if it took too long for the fight to finish they'd call for climax and you'd no longer be allowed to move or block. It's a lick swapping finale

Is there something out there citing that as an old rule?

I can't find anything but I remember an announcer talking about it during the Olympics (likely the '76 games) - a ref warning a fighter to stop and the announcer saying it was illegal; as in no bobbing and weaving; but can find nothing written.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe bobbing below the waist was allowed. In the pros we've seen guys like Whitaker and Tyson do it, but it's certainly not the norm.

              - -Olympic rules and regulations like the pros are fungible here today and gone tomorrow. All sports all the way up to every society known to mankind been in constant change if not in a major upheaval.

What is interesting, perhaps before that crook got elected to some high Olympic position that briefly caused the IOC to ban boxing from the Olympics, the IOC was allowing professional WSB tourneys to introduce Olympians to a measure of pro boxing. Guys like Loma, Usyk, Joyce, ect got their earliest pro experiences there.
