EBU super featherweight champion Samir Ziani (31-3-1) retained the title last night in Agen (France) with a unanimous decision over Belgian challenger Faroukh Kourbanov (16-2).

It wasn´t easy and Ziani also had problems making the weight. At the end it was scored 116-112 twice and 119-109. Ziani´s manager Gary Hyde is now looking for big fights in the UK.

In December of 2014 Ziani lost a close decision to current IBF 135 lb champ Richard Commey in Copenhagen.  It was in fact so close that most observers at ringside - including this reporter - had Ziani winning by at least two points.

In Berlin, German light heavyweight Nick Hannig (8-0-1) and South African Ryno Liebenberg (19-7-1) again clashed for the WBC International title. They drew the first time around but this time Hannig retained the title with a hardfought decision.

The German had problems with his conditioning in the first fight but this time he was the stronger man in the middle and later rounds. However, Liebenberg hurt and floored Hannig in the last round and with another ten seconds to work on he might have stopped his opponent. As it was Hannig won on scores of 115-112 twice and 114-113.

Croatian heavyweight Petar Milas (14-0) won a close call over South African Johnny Muller (21-9-2) and Danny Heydrich (6-1) won the BDB version of the International German heavyweight title with a second round stoppage over overmatched Bosnian Ibrahim Odobasic (3-10).

Croatian heavy Marco "King" Calic (11-0) outscored tought Ukrainan Serhii Zhuk (3-5-2) over eight in the headliner of a pro-am show at the Mate Parlov Sport Center in Pula, Croatia. "King" Calic showed again he is ready for bigger things.

The great former Olympic Gold Medal winner and WBC champ Mate Parlov resided in Pula and in retirement owned a cafe there until he passed away in 2008.
