German junior welterweight Simon Vollmer has joined 3 Point Management after recently making his successful American debut.

Vollmer, 6-0 (2 KOs), a 22-year-old southpaw from Heidelberg and a four-time member of the German National Boxing Team, now works out of Churchill Boxing Club in Santa Monica, California, under trainer Pedro Neme.

After winning six-round unanimous decisions over Leon Martinez (in May) and Seiran Engel (in July), Vollmer made his decision to sign with Los Angeles-based 3 Point Management, or 3 PM.

“I studied a lot before deciding to sign with 3 PM,” Vollmer said. “The big factor was the team – who they’ve signed, how they’ve moved their fighters and where they are today. They keep their fighters active and in big fights. 3 PM takes good care of its fighters, and that was very important to me.”

Vollmer turned to boxing at age 10, going 80-9-1 as an amateur while training out of Germany’s Olympic Center. Inspired by fighters such as Pernell Whitaker and Roberto Duran, Vollmer – a self-described “slick counterpuncher” – he decided to move to the U.S. to broaden his boxing horizons.

He has since begun sharpening his style, bringing a unique mix of European fundamentals and an old-school American style influenced by mentor Tom Yankello, who trained former lightweight champion Paul Spadafora.

“I’m proud of my country,” Vollmer said, “but the amateur boxing program there isn’t supported. I wanted to be in the Olympics, so I saved up and came to the United States to improve my style. Now, I’m working every day to reach the top with the team at 3 PM.”
