Probably someone trying to get into your email account or to get you to click a confirmation link that will take you to a **** site or a site trying to sell you something. Or a virus.

You can usually tell it's fake by looking at the email address. Even if it says 'from facebook', the email address will usually be something like facebook@fjhsdfj.com

Some ****s try and do it with paypal as well. You get an email saying 'new news from paypal' or something like that, then you click the link to a fake site that looks just like the real thing and log in, and then the scammers have your username and password and so they can access your account and take your money.
