pavlik got schooled by 50 yr. old man not to long before martinez beat him.

pwill's big wins aside from marg (which is disputable)?

a 40 yr. old verno phillips , winky wright after like a 20 yr. layoff and kermit cintron who jumped out of the ring.

    big whoop.

vic darchinyan was a monster at 112 when nonito beat him. he ktfo everyone at the time.

vic won like 5-6 belts after his loss to nonito and his losses were at bantamweight , 2 divisions up.

gtfo with your ****** revisionist crap.

I actually kinda feel bad for Donaire though. He moved up in weight to face someone 8lbs bigger and people complain that he won because of size? Seriously?

The guys at SBW and FW are bigger than him. But if we are going by skills and by the ability to finish a fight with one punch then Donaire is above everyone not named Floyd or Manny.

I hate to jump on the bandwaggon. If a guy loses, people always talk crap about him. But to me, Montiel was never that great. He always had his hands at chest height. wtf is that? Not high enough to defend punches, not low enough to throw them from a position that the opponent doesn't see coming.

I remember reading that for the Normandy attacks, half of Hitler's generals said to station tanks on the beaches so as to attack the oncoming ships of allied soldiers, whereas the other half wanted to station the tanks far back, so as to attack the solders once they reached land. Hitler tried to please both sets of generals by having the tanks inbetween, which didn't work because it didn't stop the approaching ships or the landed soldiers.

Not sure if that's true but it reminds me of Montiel's stance
the german generals wanted to counterattack the landings with tanks before they got to build up their forces.

hitler was sleeping though and everyone was too scared to wake him up.

the counterattack orders was delayed hours while they waited for hitler to wake up.

Donaire has never been an underdog against some one much taller than him and won, Martinez has twice, Vic beat a bunch of nobodies before facing Donaire, and Donaire was expected to be another one of those nobodies, he fought a bunch of bums from the Philippines and Thailand. Montiel was a heavy underdog, many were saying how Hasegawa was "schooling" him before teh KO, he wasn't all that, he lost to Gonzalez, a fighter who losses all his big fights, and got lucky against Valdez, a fight he probably should have lost.

so....... upsets shouldn't count much if the opponents is not much taller?

so he lost to jhonny...... no one is saying montiel is some atg.

pwill and pavlik didn't have any losses before serge beat him?

let's go back to the beginning.

so richie thinks donaire is overrated because donaire should be #4 instead of #3?

                  hmmm......

i don't really care which of the 2 is #3 and which is #4. you can make a case for either.

but overrated because he's 1 spot higher up than where you think he should be?

I think he's rated higher than he should be, nah that's not overrating.

When it comes to who is better out of Donaire and Martinez, I think you have to wait and see.

If we are going on opinion then fair enough, pick whoever you want as the better fighter.

But when it comes to resume, I think we have to see the next 1-2 fights each one has.

To me, Donaire is the better fighter. He is something very special. But Martinez, while skilled, is easier to hit and doesn't have as much power.

But time will tell. I picked Williams and Pavlik to beat Martinez so maybe I underrated him. But to me, he is easier to hit than Donaire and he doesn't have the kind of fight-changing power, so I rate Donaire better.

It's a shame that there is no Tapia around now. Donaire will have to fight bigger guys to prove himself because I don't think the top opposition exists at bantamweight.
