I know a guy older than me. He registered as a D in the 1960s when he became eligible to vote. Due to policy shifts by the Dems in the 70s, that guy has voted Rep or Libertarian til this day. He just never went and changed his affiliation.
Funny thing is, he still gets mailers from the ******** Party, asking for money and other forms of party support.
Hell, I cant even recall what I'm registered as. It could be D!! Lol
I know my first vote for State Governor was for a ********, so it's quite possible.

Bloomberg ran as a ********** his first term as NYC mayor, even though he was a ******** prior to and all along. He wanted to ride the success of Rudy’s accomplishments and win over his constituents. Typical pandering politician.
But you are correct; if you're saying R guys tend to be closeted, and D guys are usually open.
There are exceptions, like Corey Booker.
I don't know why that is; as the issue of gay marriage is settled, and I'd wager gay folks don't all think in lockstep on key issues like taxes, regulations, immigration, the role of Gov't, etc.
