The root cause of the problem is that Americans want to get high.

The cartels used to be in Columbia and now they are in Mexico and next they might be in Haiti.

As long as people wanna get high there will be criminals who band together to supply that demand.

Calderon had the right idea when he said we will not allow the cartels to impose their laws on the Mexican people. Yes, there was violence, but there is violence now. More so than the past years.

Whether Mexico was or wasn’t following US orders yesterday, what was proven was that the cartels can do whatever they want when they want to.

Calderón and his war exploded the violence and EPN continued it....he received a country with 10000 deaths and turned them to 25000 and the trend hasn't budged since...it is a 12 year trend on the rise. You dont know **** about Mexico. There's a reason AMLO won with more votes than all of his opponents combined, campaigned on amnesty, patrolling and ending the war, got more votes than anyone in the history of Mexico and is polling at 65+% approval. The drug war made things worse. This was a totally atypical move by the Mexican guard. The DEA pressured them into it because they didnt care how many civilians died.

And the filipino solution was already tried. **** got worse. Narcos grew their social base, got better armed, got more violent, infiltrated every level of the military and the governement. Civilians were killed at the rate of a war zone. This is exactly why the new approach was necessary. US pressure precipitated this atypical arrest and the Mexican government botched it so they cut their losses early.

Mexico needs a middle class. The drug cartels are essentially the main economy in most cities/states of Mexico. If the Mexican government gave 2 **** asses, theyd form logical social programs, in effort to combat the Cartels. Build a National guard, pay them well, give them land or a home, and pay for their education. Similar to what the US did after World War 2 but instead of fighting a foreign war, itll be a civil 1.

The US also has to do something; deeming all Cartels ********* would be humbling at the very least. Any drug dealer caught on the US side with proven Cartel connections should get sent to Guantanamo.

My man Mexico has been poor for years. Yet violence was never to this extreme. While poor, people were still be able to walk the streets, parents weren’t afraid that their children would be abducted like they are today.

people don’t truly understand is that the cartel violence today grew out of citizens and the government not doing anything.
Practicing the whole “if you don’t mess with them they don’t mess with you” and “well they’re only selling drugs to the gringos so it’s not our problem”.

This allowed the cartels to grow and because no one challenged their lawlessness it allowed them to enter other forms of criminal activity. Kidnappings, extortions, etc.

Why people would want a president to follow the policy that let these criminals flourish in the first place is beyond me.
