Man wins $750K lawsuit against wife's lover

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- A man just won a big payout against the man he says wooed his wife and broke up their marriage.

Under the "Alienation of Affection" law, Kevin Howard was able to sue the man his wife had an affair with.

"He came to my house and ate dinner with my children, and I and her. We shared stories we talked about personal lives," Howard said.

Although he says it did not heal his heart, Howard walked away with $750,000.

"I filed this case because I believe it's very important that people understand that sanctity of marriage is important. Especially in this day and age when people question everyone's morals, people questions everyone's liability of a person and the state-backed me up on it," Howard told WITN.

The Alienation of Affection law is from the 1800s, following an English law that dates back to 1745 when wives were considered property.

The law exists in five other states.

    Infidelity is big business!

DURHAM, North Carolina (KTRK) -- A judge says a Texas man's affair with a North Carolina man's wife should cost him nearly $9 million.

The Herald-Sun of Durham reports that Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson awarded Keith King $8.8 million in compensatory and punitive damages Thursday from Francisco Huizar III.

King had sued Huizar for, among other complaints, criminal conversation and alienation of affection. North Carolina is one of a few states where jilted spouses can sue affair partners.

King claims his marriage was destroyed by Huizar's wrongful and malicious actions.

King used text messages, Facebook posts, phone records and hotel receipts to prove Huizar ended his relationship with his wife.

Attorney Joanne Foil says the affair and an alleged assault by Huizar cost King's company, BMX Stunt Shows, revenue and an employee, as his wife worked for the company.

Huizar's attorney, Cheri Patrick, says the Kings' marriage was damaged before Huizar met the wife at a BMX show. Patrick says King was controlling and manipulative.

    Huizar plans to appeal.

I can see this getting real sticky. You have a fling with someone's spouse, the marriage has likely been in shambles for quite some time anyway. Now the "victim" is going to sue the guy she was sneaking around with? These f'n lawyers are finding every damn loophole they can to make money.

            Society has changed.

Used to be you could get shot for fooling around with another man's wife.

These days you could get sued instead.

Yeah, my family law professor was talking about this last week, how in some states the innocent party can seek equitable relief for criminal conversation.

If a woman can screw you over legally, might as well be able to do the same to her.

i get respect in my hood, for not talking to married wimmin.
i want to at times, but i do not.

innocent converstations, in my experience, often end with my dong in someone s wife.

                    not no more.

j wimmin are like, wow, you hold your wifes hand, and carry the bags, you wait for her to catch up or slow down walking.

my wife tells them yeah, hes alright, he does what a n y man should do. nothing special. we laugh. she tells me that they got ****ed up husbands with mistresses, etc. that is why they like me.

                    makes sense.
