[PLEASE HELP] ?Black ?New Jersey High School Wrestler Forced to Cut Dreadlocks by White Referee

An incident at a New Jersey high school wrestling tournament in which a black wrestler was forced by a white referee to cut off his dreadlocks has once again sparked a social media backlash and questions about the treatment of young people of color.

A video originally tweeted by a SNJ Today reporter shows Buena Regional High School junior Andrew Johnson standing dejected in the school's gym after being forced to choose between getting his hair cut or forfeiting.

In the video, fans and coaches watch an official cut off Johnson's dreadlocks with a pair of scissors before he is allowed to compete.

The crowd cheers as Johnson wins the match - which helped his school to a tournament victory - but despite having his hand raised after the victory the junior stands with his shoulders slumped and head down as he walks off the mat to be comforted by his team.

this kid is not black!!!! He is not black he's mother is white and his dad idk. But the media is always pushing a race war. The kid has dreads but he's not "black" . This one reason why I don't like them term "black".

Eh. When you compete in a combat sport you shouldn't have excessively long beards or hair flying around in my opinion.

If you do your opponent should be allowed to grab them and yank you around. To show you the error of your ways.

The ref that made him was suspended for a year for calling a black ref a n-gger. The black ref was suspended too but both got overturned. There had to be a different way to resolve this instead of a way that made a national new story that only furthers the divide.

Im almost certain this was not racial, dreads in a wrestling match would naturally be a problem.

he was wrestling all year with no problems. but it wasnt an issue until the championship rounds? looks fishy. and his dreads were still baby length. i didn't see the big deal. the white girl that chopped them with scissors did it like she's been waiting for that moment for a while. she left all his dreads at the top and only chopped the ones at the back. really pointless. i dont care if this kid is not "black" dreadlocks are seen as a "black" hairstyle, that's enough to spin this as racial motivated especially considering the history of this referee.

There should be a rule or law where only blacks are allowed to have dreads. Every time I see a white person with dreads, I have this overwhelming urge to sock them right in the face.

              C'mon man.

The kid apparently wrestled 20 some odd matches this year, without any issue with his hair, yet it comes down to the referee with the racial issues, having already been reprimanded the prior year, to now denigrate the kid, in an apparent championship match no less, yet the kids race wasn't a factor (saw a family picture in a video about the incident; mother is clearly White American, how far back her European ancestry goes isn't clear or important, while his father is black/Latino, with the mix there not really being important either. One drop rule and all that)?

Nowt wrong with pulling hair in a brawl. I say let the other lad yank his wig off if the dopey twat wants to wrestling with long hair.
