    I looked up to Jordan as a kid when I was playing basketball on a competetive level myself. With boxing it was clearly Tyson. Not that I thought of them as 'black', they were just amazing to watch.

                The first black birth on record in what would become the U.S. happened in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1606. And the first African-American birth occurred in 1624, according to the African American Registry.

                African-Americans were responsible for the invention of 3D graphics, blood banks, gas masks, potato chips and Super Soaker water guns, according to HowStuffWorks and the Atlanta Black Star.

                One out of every four cowboys in the 1800s was black, CNN reported.

                  Hiram Rhodes Revels was the first African American ever elected to the United States Senate. He represented the state of Mississippi from February 1870 to March 1871.

                  "The Renaissance" was the name of the first black professional basketball team. They were nicknamed the Rens and once won an amazing 88 consecutive games.

                  Robert Abbott became the first black millionaire after he founded the weekly newspaper, the Chicago Defender, in 1905. BET founder Robert L. Johnson became the first black billionaire in 2000.
