    [HOLY S**T!] Banksy

So I'm watching the Banksy documentary right now on HBO, where he hit NY. How did this guy become so mythical? If he leaves some work anywhere, the next day it gets f**king mobbed. Literally. People drive from all over just to get a glimpse and a picture of his work.

He also pulled a stunt in central park, where he put a bunch of his paintings on sale for $60 -- he had an anonymous old man selling them and nobody knew they were Banksy's. The dude sat there all day...and sold a total of 7. There were still like 20 left when he packed up and left.

Art dealers estimate that those $60 paintings sold that day are now worth upwards of $250,000.

**** is crazy, Hugh...nobody even knows who the dude is or what he looks like, he just pops up all over the f**king world through the art he leaves

This documentary is some pretty interesting **** and I only caught the second half of it. Check it out some time. It's called Banksy Does New York. There's a bunch of showings coming up on HBO.

Though his artwork is mostly composed of clever and satirical criticism of negative aspects of current societies, it's become a financial phenomenon due to the insatiable urge of snobby art collectors to own something "cool".

            Yeah I tend to agree.

edit: dude is talented, not denying him that, but it blows my mind that he has become a worldwide a phenomenon who can literally paint something on a 6 by 12 inch canvas and that piece be worth 250K overnight

I wonder what the evolutionary explanation for "paying for the name" is.

Probably something to do with following the crowd - I guess copying others is pretty safe from an evolutionary standpoint.

Mr. Brainwash in some respects has made Bansky less mythical and relevant...

I wonder how long it'll be before a mountaineer reaches the summit of Everest and is greeted by a Banksy.
