What happened to children these days?

It seems rare these days to see a group of kids out on their bikes together and roaming around the streets. It seems this generalization have been completely desensitized by society and they stay locked in doors. Is this really what children are doing these days?

When I was child I was out riding my bike everyday exploring, and making new discoveries of hide outs. Even creating dens in the forest. I would go out with a group of friends on our bikes and conqueror new territories, find shortcuts to places. Random adventures would commence even though we didn't know where we would end up. We would often say a time to meet at a place and there everybody would be there. I was out climbing trees and creating things as a child. I would be playing around just before the darkness would draw in. I wasn't bothered about walking around or riding home alone. I had no worries at all.

I look around today, see children that have no social skills and stay indoors all day. They don't even interact with anybody on a face-to-face level. They are nervous and uncomfortable in real human interaction. I see a large portion of younger people who are overweight and don't take care to take care of themselves. I see kids who are inactive and don't really do anything. It's all to easy to sit down and do diddly squat locked in a world far from reality. I remember I would be racing home on my bike to eat my dinner and get straight back outdoors. I literally couldn't get out soon enough. I would still go out in the rain and play around, dive in the mud or whatever.

I did myself experience video games to a degree and the uprising of technology, however, I was still out everyday with friends doing and participating in all kinds of activities. I had my first phone at age 15, but I was only used for making calls. Now I see youngsters completely absorbed in their phones. They aren't interested. It seems there is no balance in life now. What in the actual **** happened? Is everybody turning into hermits?

Who needs a bike when you have 13 cars, a plane and $7 mil in GTA?

parents have become so paranoid because today's society is pretty ****ed up. It is "safer" to keep your kids inside playing grand theft auto than to let them go out into the real world of drugs, gangs, STD's and getting stabbed/shot/****d/robbed etc. The lessons passed down from generation to generation are degrading in value. Semi-**** grandparents = **** parents = ****tier children = ****tiest grandchildren etc etc etc.. There are exceptions who learn from their parents' mistakes and become better parents though.

It's funny actually. I'm closing in on 19 years of age now.

I remember being in middle school, every day kids would either chill out after school or just roam around. Nowadays, when I pass by the school all the kids are gone within 30 mins, seldom see kids walk around the neighborhood at their age too.

I remember being their age just chillin and kickin back and having fun with friends, I know my whole neighborhood in n out and even through the backyards of peoples houses through really damn weird shortcuts haha..

Sometimes I think I had it easy in childhood being born in 95 combined with the boom of technology circa 1999. Then I realize, kids for the past 5+ years have been born into some crazy technology(the xbox/ps3 nowadays blow the N64 out of the water..), and the fact that the internet is vastly incorporated into daily lives now has changed how society works.

Do kids even grow up playing games like Super Mario? Or do they all get their first system and immediately hook up Call of Duty and go around cussing and killing people online? What a world we live in.

We all want to pass our genes on, but there are certain things that aren't coded into our DNA.. and how to LIVE is something we must pass on to future generations!

It's just the fact I was born right at the time the whole technology scene blew up, starting with the dotcom boom.

My generation(1990-1996 mostly, a little of the '97) have witnessed a lot of technological advances as far as tech that we use in our daily lives. It's just really interesting from our age group perspective, we know some of you old heads had it worse.. but some of these lil 7 year old kids already have ****ing iPhones!!

                  WTF IS THAT!!

I remember I was out one time and this little kid was complaining he broke his iPad, mommy said dont worry.. the ****.
