      Signs
      The Fifth Element
      Terminator I
      Alien
      Vanilla Sky

      1984
      Gattaca
      Escape from New York
      Solaris (original)
      The War of the Worlds
      (1953)

I enjoyed these 15 movies more than Blade Runner
contact was excellent cinema... but i must admit, the book version is superior...

dark city was a powerful retelling of plato's allegory of the cave... i loved that film so much... (alex proyas is one of my favorite filmmakers ever..)

vanilla sky was also wonderful, but it is my belief that cameron crowe was way out of his comfort zone doing a film like that... but yeah, i thought he managed to make a good account of himself in the genre of sci-fi...

Most of what comes out of Pixar, Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo were two that took in a fortune but I thought were hugely overrated. Gladiator is a pretty overrated film, too implausible, cheesy and inaccurate.

I was going to ask you to name some of your favourites. I haven't seen Stalker, WOTW, Solaris or Dark City althought i have been meaning to see DC. The others range from okay to very good but i wouldn't put any of those among my top picks, you have some odd taste.

I imdb'd Solaris and it sounds like Danny Boyle's Sunshine was somewhat based on that have you seen it? Not my typical genre but i enjoyed it quite a bit.

                Ever see *** and Lucia?

Although I enjoy a good sci fi movie, it's not really one of my favorite genres. I prefer:

                      1) historical dramas (Les Misérables 1998, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Letters From Iwo Jima, The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1939),

                      2) good documentaries (such as The 11th Hour and David Attenborough's Life), and

                      3) good suspense thrillers (Taken, Changeling).

And good artistic direction and cinematography are important.

The only sci-fi movies in my top 100 would be Dark City, The War of the Worlds (1953) and Contact.
Check out *** and Lucia. If you like Open your eyes so much it should be a film you'll enjoy.

I read you say you don't like violence or too much violence? I like Leon alot. Taken is okay but overrated by alot of people, the acting by the daughter is horrible. Man on Fire or Man from Nowhere are similar themed films but considerably better i think.

Regarding the violence question, so i can understand your preference have you seen these films and how do rate them if you have?

                      Chopper
                      Snatch
                      Seven
                      Layer Cake
                      28 days later
                      the Town
                      Pour Elle
