I don't think any recount went through to completion. My memory's getting a bit hazy as well, though.

I think this is one of those things that will be a lot clearer 50 years from now. Hard to get real answers when the people involved are still in office or in the public eye.

That's true. If there was a conspiracy, it would have taken a lot people to make it work. If it's true, someone will talk and clear their conscience before they die. I just don't believe it. I think that so many people would've been involved that someone already would've squealed.

          hmm

Bush was legally elected. There was no controversy whatsoever with the 2004 vote.

I voted Bush because Kerry was full of hot water. Neither were great, both had flaws, but Kerry's waffling was not a good sign for a wartime President.

Bush won because Kerry's supporters had an "anybody but Bush" approach. They were hateful and purely anti-Bush in their voting for Kerry, as opposed to just voting for Kerry because he was a good candidate. The ********s learned a political lesson perhaps with the result.

I know whoever started this thread probably doesn't like Bush because of the war, but many people in 2004 supported the war and didn't find it hard to vote for Bush.

Can't argue with your analysis of the Kerry campaign. I personally feel that Bush is bad enough that almost any alternative is worthwhile, however that's a pretty lame approach when you're trying to convince the average voter, especially when this average voter has been tending to go with the other side.

The Dems have been pretty faceless in recent years. It's been going this way for a while but Clinton was the exception that proved the rule, and bought them more time in the White House than they would have had without his presence. I guess that's why they're banking so much on ***** in the future.

If McCain gets put up in '08 I think the **********s stand a good chance of winning again, though if the war situation or something else has been deteriorating from now until then it's possible that people will then take an "anyone but the **********s" approach to voting.

                  hmm

I wish McCain would run again. The dude seems deathly tired of politics sometimes though because he is just a good guy. He's not a weasel like half of em. To me, McCain's always the best option when he runs. However, I don't think people have appreciated his moderate wisdom in the past. Maybe they will now, but I could see it being really hard for him to beat Hillary in the 2008 race either way. I hope she just doesn't run.

John McCain seems like he'd be very good and should have been the Presidential candidate years back, not George Bush. Obviously George's last name weighs a lot.

A real ****ty proposition would be if the **********s know that they're going to lose in '08 and send McCain up to be the fall guy. That kind of thing happens in politics all the time.

I don't know if Hillary would necessarily win if she went up, though. In a lot of ways she's very unlikeable. Her recent tirade against video game violence shows that she will stoop to any level to secure support, and those kinds of tactics can come back to bite you in the ass in the end.
