i don't think it's about being offensive to the character, but to his opinion of it. The way midnight is talking about this character reminds me of the first Bourne movie, sounds promising

Yeah, don't download it. Not only does it take from the experience but this is the kind of film worth supporting.

Enjoyed the film a lot. I wish I hadn't read the script a few years ago, I'm sure it impacted on my enjoyment to an extent. Although the first scene in the movie is as exhilarating to watch as it was to read in the script.

It lost my attention a little in the second half, once things got a bit more.....crazy. I don't think it's a masterpiece because quite frankly, there's not enough originality and creativity at play to wow me to that extent. But it's still a very interesting film, compelling, and filled with tension.

I could tell people in my cinema were getting wigged out at the certain elements of the films(and not just the violence). Like the silences. I could hear idiots whispering between themselves as if to say "WTF, where's the driving?". You know, I really wonder about the intelligence levels of people these days, when they can't seem to handle anything that subverts things a little.

Gosling might be the only young actor in Hollywood that is interesting. I actually think "Lars and the Real Girl" is better than "Drive". But it's still a very good film - shot beautifully, scored excellently, acted well.

So yes, make the effort to go to the cinema.

Alright Midnight, just got thru watching this film and I got to disagree with it being one of the best in 10yrs. It was interesting, sure, ****** my attention to it to wonder what happens next and who knows who. But, I expected more. To be honest this film oozes with sensuality and coolness and the theme got to me. It pissed me the fck off, I swear i think it would have been better without that chick singing thru the scenes making me feel depressed and anxious.

I've seen you talk about numerous different movies Midnight and you definitely seem like the type that knows what the hell they are talking about. Don't steer me wrong, since now I am definitely going to see it this weekend.

there's a typical distinction between hollywood western protagonists and those more honest variations in the westerns all'Italiana (menacing, complex, often amoral). you're referring specifically to the latter, but it isn't a nuanceless archetype, and i find leone-eastwood's man with no name among the least compelling/interesting examples.

i'd like a little more insight. what classic samurai and western genre stuff have you seen? besides leone's trilogia. could you indentify for me which anti-heroes intrigued you most and which behaviors and emphases you see reflected in this character? jw.

Probably your woman is looking for Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart in the movie

GREEN - I can agree with that. But much of which has to do with characters/actors outside of the Leone movies. John Wayne had his own style, Eastwood had his in such movies as "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and such. So its its hard to judge on a whole each character but i can understand your arguement.

PURPLE - I wont lie to you and act as if im am a Samurai movie expert, because of all movie types i love, this is by far the genre i am the least knowledgable in. I guess it was a relation to the cool, calm, and collective mood of the Samurai films where each action was thought out and each move he made was pretty much the right one. Man of few words, sticks to his own individual law, and does not look for trouble.

GREY - I grew up on westerns. My dad grew up on them as well so i would sit and watch mostly old westerns every weekend when i was a kid. Ive been through so many man its hard to put a finger on them other than the well known ones. Shane, The Searchers, Stagecoach, and High Noon are among my favorites. To be honest as much as everyone up holds classic Westerns there are some very good current western flicks that are very good. The TV series/movie 'Lonesome Dove' is the one that has stuck with me most in my life. I loved the characters and the story of it. Also Robert Duvall's Gus is probably my favorite Western character of all time.

MAROON - I wouldnt say Gosling's character is an anti-hero...in all honesty if nothing else he is a unalterable hero. He does everyone out of the sanctity of another without thought. None of it is for him self but rather another character. But as far as my favorite anti-hero i would say John Wayne's "Ethan Edwards" is my favorite anti-hero. He is racist, mean, and unforgiving yet you can see his point of view without cringing.

If anything i would say this movie is much more like "Shane". The protagonist, Shane, is a clear gunslinger who happens upon a family and attempts to help them from getting thrown off their land. Gosling's character is along those lines. Not so much the characters interactions with other characters but the circumstances he is dropped in.

I hope that cleared up some things. I know we have had our differences on here but i think that you would like the film

                  if not, so be it

just dont go into it with a skeptical mind

i have to rewatch it, couldn't sit still enough today to really fall into it, but it seemed reallllllly slow, it never did anything to garner my full attention niether, so that didn't help

good movie tho, give an 8/10
