USA beating Russia is arguably the biggest upset in all of sports, certainly the history of American sport. This is just womens sport and the womens soccer team showed it isn't invincible. Big upset for womens sport but I wouldn't put it on the level of the hockey game or the Tyson fight.

yeah international Rugby is to die for too, the World Cups are crazy popular and more exciting than football ones.

It was meant to be a complete mismatch as it showed in the game but the US couldn't finish ...

Japan don't even have a pro league like the US does.

It was only a mismatch to the noobs that didn't watch any of the Japan games before today. They were playing absolutely great soccer. They beat the two time defending champs in the quarters in Germany and ousted a good Swedish team (that beat the US in group stage).

It was just destiny though. Just the amount of close shots that didn't go in for the US and how Japan came back twice. You could just feel it was meant to be for Japan.

Yeah, soccer is definitely at the bottom of the pecking order in our sports pedestal, but our women's national team has been near the top ever since they started doing the women's world cup in 91. We were ranked #1 going into this world cup tourney.
