People always tell us (non Americans) that California, New York and the Chicago area of Illinois are 'not like America' or 'not really America'.
As you know I used to be a PhD student and have met folks from across the USA and was wondering if you guys reckoned this to be true?
Are the sea bordering territories (+ Chicago) different from the 'US heartland'?

Honestly it has to be Texas.
A big desert with nothing to do, riddled with crime/disease/unjust law.
Oh and loaded with small towns that are boring as hell.
Guess you've never been to Texas.

Is the heartland much more racist or segregated then the big cities on the coasts and Chicago?
Is it a simple red/blue state thing?

America is different wherever you go. It's noticeably different from one side of a state to another. Very diverse place.
And yes, Cali sucks.
