The biggest snub of all is that Gutierrez is once again not even up for consideration despite clearly being the best outfielder in the major leagues with a 1.000 fielding percentage in center and insane range.

If you want my opinions on overall defensive rankings, A's have the best infield, Mariners have the best outfield, and perhaps the Rays had the best overall, averaging the two (Yanks would be a solid candidate as well).
If you're going by UZR, to you it will be injustice. But if you go by games played in that position to errors ratio, then you see Cano and Tex are the best of their position.

Give me less errors & game saving plays>a player with more errors and 'better UZR'.

Right, so committing a couple less errors was clearly more valuable in proportion to games won than being a less valuable fielder than the league average (in the cases of Jeter and Cano). Barton played 159 games, how many did Tex play? Not that many I assure you. Pennington also played 156 at short.

Incidentally, when do you think Jeter will be moved off short? I think it might be wise to swap he and A-Rod already.

          Not so fast Mr Staistics.

Let's go by Games Started at 1st base, not total games played.

Daric Barton GS: 155 10 Errors, Games Played: 157
Mark Teixeira GS: 148 3 Errors, Games Played: 149

Oh yeah, Teixeira would have committed 7+ errors in those 7 more games Barton played

I've always seen A-Rod as a better SS than Jeter, like many people agree.

Jeter should start play at 3rd more but keep in mind 3rd base is no piece of cake and Jeter is not the best SS ever.

Barton's UZR is so far above Tex's it isn't even a contest. Versus Pujols it's a lot closer. You were the one who made an issue out of games played by position.

Jeter might have to start platooning for DH until he gets his 3,000 hit and retire.

I'm gonna miss Jeter. And I know a lot of his haters will start to appreciate him after he retires.

                  Exactly and Teixeira is better.

Riiiiiiight. He played less games at first and is better. Again, because errors are such an important measure of defense

You act like he played 50 games less. 7 games and 7 errors less. Even if he played 155 games at 1st, you actually think he would gotten up to 7 errors? I'd see either nothing changes or he gets just 1 more error[4] but I highly doubt 7 games would have made a difference to those 3 errors if it took him 148 to get 3.

Lol I bet you Barton got those 10 errors in less than 148 games.
