for everyone telling me to system restore. i have no restore points to restore to. so frustrated

nah, you dont have to do that with the SATA/IDE cable, since youre already booted to windows, and it's connected by USB. it'll act just as an external drive.

If you upgrade to Windows 7 it puts all your old files in a windows old folder so you don't lose any of your files at all.
